With support from GeoPark, the Colombian Civil Air Patrol (PAC) medical brigade visited Puerto Lopez and more than 45 health professionals gave free-of-charge surgery and outpatient services to 730 people in the municipality.

A team of 39 volunteers and 10 PAC staff participated in the brigade, which provided comprehensive and quality care in outpatient specialties such as dermatology, gynecology, optometry, pediatrics and ultrasound, surgical services in gynecology, ophthalmology, general surgery and family planning services.

The visit helped improve the quality of life of 730 people in the community through the provision of 1,300 consultations and procedures. These included 630 specialized medical consultations, 84 surgeries, 400 interventions to support surgery, and 180 non-surgical procedures.

“We continue to promote initiatives that promote the well-being of our neighboring communities and contribute to closing social gaps,” GeoPark Neighbor Relations manager Diego Morales said. “Our deepest gratitude goes to those who participated in the visit, to the Puerto Lopez Mayor’s Office for its coordination, and to the Colombian Civil Air Patrol for its professionalism and for being our partners in the mission of contributing to promoting the health of our neighbors.”

“Working together with our partners allows us to bring the hospital to the people who need it most, and provide access to high-quality health services,” Civil Air Patrol general director Pamela Estrada said. “We are very happy to have come to Puerto Lopez for the first time within the framework of this partnership and to have offered medical, surgical and diagnostic services to the most vulnerable people in this municipality. We thank our partners and volunteers for joining forces to positively impact the quality of hundreds of people.”

Undertaking social investment projects in Puerto Lopez is possible thanks to the progress of the oil exploration activities carried out by GeoPark in the municipality. As GeoPark continues developing these activities it will continue to implement initiatives that, like the visit of the medical brigade, promote territorial development.
