Media Room >GeoPark becomes the first oil company to calculate its water footprint in all Colombian operationsBogotá, Colombia.August 31, 2024 GeoPark, a leading independent energy company in Latin America, is the first company in Colombia’s oil and gas sector to calculate its water footprint for all its operated blocks in the country, a significant step in its commitment to sustainability and the responsible management of natural resources. In line with sustainability being a promise of care and commitment to the planet’s present and future for GeoPark, the company has focused its environmental sustainability efforts on two fundamental pillars: Climate Action and the Responsible Management of Water and Biodiversity.Water and biodiversity are critically important to the ecosystems that sustain people, plants and animals, and which enable GeoPark to operate. Accordingly, in 2023 GeoPark calculated its integral water footprint in all operated blocks in Colombia, Ecuador and Chile* for the first time, using NTC-ISO 14046:2017 methodology. The assessment was verified by Colombia’s Standards Institute ICONTEC and included the amount of water used directly by GeoPark in its operations and indirectly through its supply chain, as well as assessing impacts associated with the availability and quality of water resources. The exercise enables GeoPark to establish a baseline of its corporate water footprint with which to define goals and actions to continue promoting sustainable water management in the territories it operates in.For more information about GeoPark’s 2023 water management, see the 2023 SPEED/Sustainability Report by visiting www.geo-park.com or clicking here.*The measurement of GeoPark’s water footprint in Chile was carried out in 2023, before these assets were divested in January 2024.
