GeoPark bets on road safety

As the safety of employees, contractors and neighbors is a top priority at GeoPark, a leading independent Latin American oil and gas company in Colombia, it has a safety program for all road users in Colombia.

The safety initiative brings together teaching and entertainment to focus on greater knowledge of traffic regulations and generating a culture of prevention when driving a vehicle, riding a motorbike or bicycle, or using roads as a pedestrian.

GeoPark has made almost 130 interventions this year to prevent vehicle incidents on the roads around its operations. These activities have centered on four core areas:

1. Teaching: Education on compliance with traffic rules.

2. Entertainment: Learning through recreational activities.

3. Awareness-raising: Campaigns to promote clear messages that make a positive difference to drivers’ behavior on the roads.

4. Technical: Alcohol testing exercises, basic vehicle inspection and speed monitoring.

Other highlights of this program include certifying more than 4,400 drivers of all vehicle types as Safe Drivers and holding more than 1,350 road safety talks and over 540 road safety training opportunities open to all kinds of road users.

During the end-of-year holidays, GeoPark asks everyone to respect traffic regulations, drive defensively and not to use devices that can distract them on their journeys, and to not drink alcohol or take psychoactive substances when traveling by road.
