Media Room >GeoPark undescores its commitment to sustainable development in PutumayoBogota, ColombiaAugust 22, 2025 In light of recent interest in GeoPark’s operations in Putumayo, the Company deems it essential to provide substantiated information on its initiatives related to environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and human rights within this department.GeoPark entered Putumayo in January 2020 following the acquisition of assets from Amerisur Resources PLC and is fully aware that it operates in an area of high biodiversity and cultural relevance. Accordingly, GeoPark has designed and implemented initiatives to protect the environment, use natural resources responsibly, promote and respect human rights, train stakeholders, and generate shared prosperity with neighboring communities.Facts support the impact of GeoPark’s activities. The Company has not incurred any environmental sanctions in Colombia, demonstrating the strength and responsibility of its environmental performance. Within the framework of environmental licensing processes, it has promoted participation opportunities to inform communities, social organizations and public and private entities about projects and allow them to give their opinions and contribute to project construction. GeoPark furthermore participates actively in industry activities such as ANDI’s Biodiversity and Development initiative that supports the conservation of Colombia’s natural wealth. In this context, GeoPark contributes to studies and projects to protect water sources and biodiversity, working in partnership with high-level scientific institutions such as the Sinchi Institute and the Humboldt Institute and generating applied knowledge that supports the sustainability of Amazonian ecosystems.In 2024, GeoPark reduced its emissions intensity in Colombia by 28% from the 2020 baseline, showing the strength of its commitment to climate action and the transition to operations with lower environmental impact. In Putumayo, GeoPark has used biodigesters to process more than 25.1 metric tons of organic waste in the last two years, avoiding emissions and disposal in landfills, and creating value for neighboring communities through providing 39,200 liters of biofertilizer to improve local agricultural productivity. GeoPark has also harvested more than 2,586 m³ of rainwater to use in operations, reducing pressure on water sources in areas of high biodiversity.High-impact social investments complement these environmental measures, and the Sustainable Housing program has improved the quality of life of more than 1,100 rural families by enabling better housing conditions. The Emprender y Crecer entrepreneurship program, developed together with the Putumayo Chamber of Commerce, has strengthened more than 220 local companies and benefited 266 entrepreneurs and business people, contributing to Putumayo’s economic autonomy and productive recovery. Other initiatives include musical training in partnership with the Batuta Foundation, which has benefited more than 500 children; the Leadership for Peace program, which trained more than 87 community leaders; and the construction of the La Alea Health Center, which benefits more than 2,300 inhabitants of rural sectors in Puerto Asis.GeoPark strengthened its Human Rights System in 2024 by updating its Policy to further align it with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and incorporate stakeholder expectations. It also reinforced mitigation controls and strengthened its due diligence process with tools to identify risks and impacts. The Company has informed 100% of its partners about its approach to human rights and trained all new suppliers in this subject. As part of the System, GeoPark has four management mechanisms: the Ethics Hotline, the Equality, Inclusion and Diversity Committee, the Coexistence Committee, and the Cuéntame grievance mechanism, which resolved 95.9% of the 855 cases raised in 2024.As part of GeoPark’s commitment to strengthening local capacities, it partnered with La Silla Vacía in the first quarter of 2025 to train about 15 journalists from Putumayo in contemporary challenges of the profession such as artificial intelligence applied to journalism, financial sustainability of the media, digital narratives, disinformation, and coverage with a local focus.GeoPark recognizes the unique value of Putumayo and underscores its commitment to continue working transparently and using evidence and permanent dialogue to demonstrate the compatibility of energy and sustainability, and how together they can benefit territorial development and protect biodiversity.
