Oil and gas operating company GeoPark has completed two social investment projects in nine municipalities in Putumayo department, benefiting more than 8,000 children and their families. The initiative provided equipment to 39 Child Development Centers (CDI) in the department and 168 educational institution canteens in Puerto Guzman municipality.

GeoPark invested more than 11 billion pesos in the initiative, through which it donated pedagogical materials, furniture, kitchen equipment and instruments, and other necessary supplies to benefit children in Putumayo. The projects were carried out in coordination with the Ministry of Education, the Government of Putumayo and the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare, and through the Works for Taxes mechanism were supported by the Agency for Territorial Renewal. The projects contribute to reinforcing learning environments and improving children’s nutritional care.

Such projects represent new opportunities to contribute to improving the population’s living conditions, according to GeoPark sustainable development coordinator Ivette González. “We thank all the entities involved for the trust placed in GeoPark to materialize these important initiatives that make us partners in the construction of a more just, equitable and inclusive society,” González said.

Since it started work in Colombia, GeoPark has made efforts to promote development and close gaps in the territories where it operates through coordinating technical and financial efforts with public and private entities. In the last two years, the Company has executed projects aimed at providing access to energy to more than 458 families in Putumayo through the installation of solar panels, has trained more than 60 social leaders in the department in promoting peaceful coexistence in the territory, and has improved the living conditions of its neighboring communities in Puerto Asis through interventions and adaptations in more than 1,042 homes, among other high social impact initiatives.

With the completion of the two Works for Taxes projects, GeoPark continues to demonstrate its commitment to sustainable territorial development, while contributing to children in Putumayo being able to access quality services in their institutions and educational centers.

GeoPark expects to continue building strategic partnerships and executing projects that contribute to the progress of Colombia and the municipalities in which the Company operates.
