Supporting education in Colombia: Over 6,500 children benefit from GeoPark study kits

As part of its ‘Vamos a la Escuela’ program that promotes school attendance in Colombia, GeoPark donated more than 6,500 study kits to children in areas neighboring its operations, who recently began a new term.

With support from local authorities, community representatives and teachers, the Company visited schools in 65 villages in 8 municipalities of Casanare, Meta and Putumayo departments to give out the study kits. The kits have a bag and pencil case made from recycled plastic bottles, a colored box made of recycled cardboard, recycled wood pencils, and notebooks made of recycled material with designs representing animal and plant life in different regions of Colombia.

The GeoPark team carried out activities in the schools to raise environmental awareness and highlight the importance of preserving the environment, strengthening the connection between education and environmental responsibility from an early age.

“At GeoPark we recognize that education is a fundamental pillar to promote territorial development,” GeoPark Social Prosperity Coordinator Diana Torres said. “Since we arrived in Colombia, every year we have confirmed our commitment to supporting the education of children in the territories where we operate. We are pleased to make these donations to boost school retention and contribute to the family economy in our neighboring communities.”
